
The new top level domain: “.asia” is all set for launch this month.
Asia is home to more than 60% of the world’s population who speak 30 different languages, and is currently experiencing economic growth on a massive scale. The .ASIA domain was proposed to ICANN to represent the unified Asian market, much like .EU has done for the European Union. The DotAsia Registry was approved by ICANN on December 6th 2006 and is now actively promoting its services to the 73 Asian countries it covers.
DotAsia Organisation announced today that a total of 473,633 domain registration applications were received within the 3-week Landrush period. Including Sunrise and .Asia Pioneer Domains, the number of applications totals to over half a million: 505,838. .Asia registry will Go Live on March 26, domain names will be available on a First-Come-First-Served basis.
